Other Visa


Applications for permanent residency in South Africa are considered in terms of Section 26 (Direct Residency Permits) and Section 27 (Residency-on-Other-Grounds Permits) of the Immigration Act 2002 (Act No 13 of 2002), and read with Regulation 33 of the Immigration Regulations.

Volunteer Visa

This Visa allows foreign nationals to volunteer in South Africa for a period of 3 years.

In order to qualify for this visa the position must:

  • Be an unpaid position; and
  • Be at a bona fide charity or volunteering institute.

 

As the position is not a paid position, applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient financial means to support themselves for the duration of their stay in South Africa.

Exchange Visa

This visa may be issued to a foreign national participating in a programme of cultural, economic or social exchange organised or administered by an organ of state or learning institution.

Alternatively, this visa may be issued to persons under 25 years of age who wish to conduct work for no longer than 1 year.

Please take note that in certain instances, on the expiration of your exchange visa, you may not qualify for different visa until you have been out of South Africa for a period of 1 year.

Medical Treatment Visa

This visa is issued to foreign nationals intending to receive medical treatment in South Africa for longer than 3 months.

The visa is issued for a maximum period of 6 months at a time, but can be extended where necessary.

Crew Visa

This visa may be issued to the members of the crew of a conveyance and may be issued for a maximum period of 3 months.

Treaty Visa

A Treaty Visa may be issued to a foreigner conducting activities in South Africa in terms of an international agreement to which South African is a party.

Applicants will require supporting documentation from the organ of state to support their application.
