Intra-Company Transfer Visa

Applications for permanent residency in South Africa are considered in terms of Section 26 (Direct Residency Permits) and Section 27 (Residency-on-Other-Grounds Permits) of the Immigration Act 2002 (Act No 13 of 2002), and read with Regulation 33 of the Immigration Regulations.

Intra-Company Transfer Visa

An intra-company transfer visa allows a foreign national employed abroad to reside in South Africa while working for the local branch, subsidiary or affiliate of their foreign employer.

A person qualifying for this visa must have been employed with the company abroad for at least 6 months and their assignment to South Africa must be for a limited period.

One of the main focuses of this visa type is the transfer of foreign skills to a South African citizen or permanent resident during his or her time in South Africa and a skills transfer plan must be submitted with the application.

This visa, unlike other work visas, does not require the hassle of proving academic qualifications and expertise and is based purely on proof of employment.

Duration:
An intra company transfer visa may be granted for a period of 4 years. Should one determine that a longer stay in South Africa is required to transfer the foreign skills, one may reapply for this visa in their home country if proper motivation is made.
Unlike the general work visa and critical skills visa the intra company transfer visa will not assist you in acquiring permanent residency unless one can prove that the field in which you work falls within the critical skill category.
